Senior Electrical Engineer – D33 Solar PV, MV Grid Integration & BESSCompany
ZAP Solar is expanding its technical team for large-scale commercial and industrial solar projects in Dubai. We are currently preparing for MW-scale solar PV + battery energy storage projects under the Dubai D33 framework, involving medium-voltage grid connection, transformer integration, interface protection, PPC/SCADA control, and on-grid BESS operation.
This role is not a standard MEP role. We are looking for an engineer who can support the technical execution of large industrial solar PV + BESS projects from design review through authority approval, construction, testing, commissioning, and energization.
Role Objective
The primary objective is to support ZAP Solar in executing multi-MW D33 solar PV + BESS projects in Dubai, including MV connection, inverter block design, step-up transformers, RMU/switchgear coordination, interface protection, DEWA/D33 compliance, PPC/SCADA integration, and commissioning.
The candidate should be capable of reviewing vendor designs, coordinating with DEWA-approved consultants, challenging technical mistakes, and ensuring the project can be approved, built, tested, and safely connected to the grid.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and coordinate electrical design for MW-scale solar PV and BESS projects.
- Support D33 solar PV grid-connection design and documentation.
- Review single-line diagrams, protection schemes, transformer sizing, cable sizing, earthing, metering, and MV/LV interface design.
- Coordinate with DEWA-enrolled consultants, MV switchgear suppliers, transformer suppliers, inverter suppliers, BESS/PCS vendors, PPC/SCADA vendors, and site contractors.
- Support design of MV-connected solar systems above 400 kW.
- Review inverter block architecture, step-up transformer arrangements, RMU/switchgear, CT/VT, interface protection, and DEWA point-of-connection requirements.
- Coordinate PPC/SCADA requirements, including active power control, reactive power control, monitoring, alarms, communication protocols, and remote control requirements.
- Support BESS integration with PCS, EMS, BMS, PPC, and site load requirements.
- Attend technical meetings with clients, consultants, vendors, and authorities.
- Support site execution, inspection, testing, commissioning, and energization.
- Identify technical risks before procurement or construction.
- Prepare or review BOQs, technical submittals, method statements, inspection test plans, and commissioning documentation.
Required Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 7 years of electrical engineering experience.
- Strong practical experience in UAE electrical projects.
- Experience with MV/LV systems, transformers, RMUs, switchgear, protection relays, CT/VT, earthing, cable sizing, and grid connection.
- Experience reviewing or preparing SLDs, load schedules, cable schedules, voltage drop calculations, short-circuit calculations, and protection coordination.
- Experience with authority submissions, inspections, and consultant coordination.
- Ability to work on Dubai industrial project sites.
Strongly Preferred Experience
- DEWA / Shams Dubai / D33 / DRRG project exposure.
- MW-scale solar PV project experience.
- Solar PV inverter block design and grid interconnection experience.
- Battery energy storage system experience, including PCS, EMS, BMS, and load-shifting or zero-export control.
- PPC, SCADA, RTU, Modbus, IEC 60870-5-104, IEC 61850, or grid-control experience.
- 11kV or 33kV system experience.
- Testing and commissioning of MV equipment, transformers, switchgear, protection relays, or grid-connected generation systems.
- Abu Dhabi ADDC/AADC/TAQA/QCC/E1 certification is a plus, but not mandatory for the Dubai D33 role.

Preferred experience with one or more of the following:
