Senior Spatial Designer – Cultural Festivals & Destination Design- Freelance

We are looking for a Senior Spatial Designer to join immediately on a large-scale cultural

festival and destination project in the UAE.

This role requires a designer who can operate at both conceptual and spatial planning levels:

shaping visitor journeys, cultural zones, gathering spaces, F&B areas, landscape-integrated

experiences, temporary structures, and large-scale outdoor destinations.

The ideal candidate must have strong experience in cultural festivals, public events,

destination design, exhibitions, pavilions, temporary architecture, or large-scale

experiential environments.

Strong proficiency in Rhino, SketchUp, Enscape, and Twinmotion is required.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the spatial design development of key zones within a large-scale cultural festival

and destination project.

• Translate creative direction into spatial concepts, visitor journeys, masterplan studies,

zone layouts, and 3D design proposals.

• Develop arrival sequences, cultural experiences, plazas, shaded pathways, F and B areas,
• viewing areas, gathering spaces, landscape features, and activation zones.
• Create strong spatial narratives that connect culture, landscape, architecture,
• programming, and visitor movement.
• Work across plan, section, massing, and 3D to test design ideas quickly and clearly.
• Use Rhino for complex spatial studies, parametric/form exploration, geometry

development, site studies, and refined 3D design work.

• Use SketchUp for fast concept modeling, layout testing, and team coordination.
• Use Enscape and Twin motion to create atmospheric visuals, walkthroughs, and

presentation-ready design views.

• Coordinate with the Creative Director, Design Lead, CAD Designer, visualisation team,

technical team, and production stakeholders.

• Guide mid-level designers and support the development of consistent design language

across multiple project zones.

• Prepare and review client presentation material, including plans, 3D views, mood boards,

visual references, diagrams, and spatial narratives.

• Respond quickly to feedback and develop multiple design options under tight deadlines.
• Ensure that design proposals are culturally relevant, visually compelling, operationally

logical, and technically realistic.

• Support the development of zone-by-zone design packages, including layouts, massing,

key visuals, material references, and design intent descriptions.

Required Skills & Experience

1. 7–10+ years of experience in spatial design, experiential design, event design,

architecture, interior architecture, landscape design, or cultural destination design.

2. Strong portfolio demonstrating work on cultural festivals, public events, exhibitions,

pavilions, destination projects, temporary architecture, or large-scale outdoor

environments.

3. Strong command of SketchUp is required.

4. Strong visualization workflow using Enscape and/or Twinmotion.

5. Ability to lead spatial design development from concept to design development.

6. Strong understanding of site planning, visitor flow, circulation, adjacency, scale, access,

comfort, and public realm experience.

7. Ability to think in plan, section, elevation, 3D massing, and atmosphere.

8. Good understanding of temporary structures, landscape integration, cultural

programming, and event operations.

9. Strong design taste, visual judgment, and cultural sensitivity.

10. Ability to work quickly, lead design options, and make decisions under pressure.

11. Strong communication and presentation skills.

12. Experience working in the UAE, GCC, or Middle East cultural context is a strong

advantage.
