Tower Crane Mechanic

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Repairs

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on tower cranes and associated lifting equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical faults and carry out necessary repairs.
• Inspect and maintain crane components including motors, gearboxes, brakes, hoisting mechanisms, slewing systems, trolley systems, wire ropes, sheaves, and limit switches.
• Replace worn or damaged parts and components to ensure safe crane operation.
• Attend emergency breakdowns and minimize equipment downtime.

Inspection & Troubleshooting

• Conduct daily, weekly, and monthly inspections of tower cranes as per maintenance schedules.
• Identify defects, abnormal wear, and potential failures before they lead to breakdowns.
• Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues and implement effective corrective actions.
• Ensure all safety devices and operational controls are functioning properly.

Safety & Compliance

• Ensure maintenance activities comply with UAE regulations, project safety requirements, and manufacturer guidelines.
• Verify the proper functioning of overload protection systems, limit switches, anti-collision systems, and other safety features.
• Follow permit-to-work procedures and safe work practices when working at height.
• Maintain a safe work environment and use appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Immediately report unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment defects.

Installation & Dismantling Support

• Assist in tower crane erection, climbing, extension, dismantling, and relocation activities.
• Support third-party inspection agencies during crane inspections and certifications.
• Ensure all mechanical components are properly assembled and aligned during installation and dismantling.

Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain maintenance logs, inspection reports, and repair records.
• Record equipment breakdowns, corrective actions, and spare parts usage.
• Report recurring equipment issues and recommend improvements.
• Maintain records of crane certifications, inspections, and maintenance schedules.

Spare Parts & Inventory Control

• Monitor spare parts requirements and coordinate with stores and procurement departments.
• Ensure critical spare parts are available to reduce downtime.
• Maintain proper inventory records for crane maintenance materials and consumables.

Qualifications & Experience

• ITI, Diploma, or Technical Certification in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Heavy Equipment Maintenance, or a related field.
• Minimum 5–8 years of experience in maintenance and repair of tower cranes within the construction industry.
• Experience working on high-rise building projects is highly preferred.
• UAE/GCC experience is an advantage.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of tower crane mechanical systems, hydraulic systems, and basic electrical troubleshooting.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, technical manuals, and maintenance procedures.
• Knowledge of tower crane erection, dismantling, and climbing operations.
• Familiarity with various tower crane brands such as:
• Potain
• Liebherr
• Comansa
• Zoomlion
• XCMG
• Yongmao
• Terex
