Senior Engineer – Production Planning & Design

The Senior Mechanical Engineer – Design & Production Planning will be responsible for reviewing customer enquiries, preparing manufacturing plans, supporting engineering design activities, coordinating production, and ensuring projects are executed efficiently and delivered on schedule. The role requires a strong understanding of CNC machining, fabrication, engineering drawings, manufacturing processes, and production planning.

The successful candidate will report to the Production Manager and coordinate with procurement, stores, quality, sales, and production departments to ensure smooth execution of projects. While the primary responsibility is engineering and production planning, the candidate should also be capable of preparing or reviewing engineering drawings whenever required.

Key Responsibilities

Engineering & Design

• Review customer drawings, specifications, and technical requirements.
• Prepare and review manufacturing drawings, fabrication drawings, machining drawings, assembly drawings, and Bills of Materials (BOMs) as required.
• Support design modifications to improve manufacturability and production efficiency.
• Assist in reverse engineering and product development projects.
• Ensure engineering documentation is accurate and up to date.

Production Planning

• Prepare manufacturing process plans and job routings.
• Plan and schedule production activities based on delivery priorities.
• Prepare work orders and production documentation.
• Coordinate with production teams to ensure smooth workflow.
• Monitor work-in-progress (WIP) and assist in meeting delivery schedules.
• Support the Production & Engineering Manager in optimizing machine utilization and production efficiency.

Estimation & Technical Support

• Review customer enquiries and RFQs.
• Assist in preparing machining, fabrication, and material cost estimations.
• Calculate machining hours, fabrication hours, material requirements, and Bills of Materials.
• Support quotation preparation and technical clarifications.
• Recommend suitable manufacturing methods and process improvements.

Coordination

• Coordinate with Procurement regarding material requirements.
• Coordinate with Stores regarding material availability.
• Coordinate with Quality for inspection requirements.
• Liaise with customers on technical queries when required.
• Support production teams in resolving engineering and manufacturing issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a manufacturing or precision engineering environment.
• Strong knowledge of CNC machining, fabrication, and industrial manufacturing processes.
• Experience in production planning and manufacturing process planning.
• Good understanding of machining and fabrication cost estimation.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings.
• Proficient in AutoCAD.
• Working knowledge of SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, or other equivalent 3D CAD software.
• Good knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office.
• Strong analytical, planning, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• UAE/GCC manufacturing experience will be an added advantage.
