Job Purpose
The Project Engineer is responsible for planning, coordinating, and overseeing engineering and construction projects from initiation to successful completion. The role ensures projects are delivered safely, on time, within budget, and in accordance with approved specifications, quality standards, and client requirements. The Project Engineer acts as the primary technical coordinator between clients, consultants, contractors, and internal teams to ensure efficient project execution.
Key Responsibilities
1. Project Planning & Execution
- Plan, coordinate, and manage engineering and construction projects from inception to completion.
- Develop project execution strategies, work schedules, and resource plans.
- Ensure project activities are carried out in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, and contractual requirements.
- Monitor project milestones and implement corrective actions to maintain project schedules.
2. Project Coordination
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal departments.
- Lead project coordination meetings and communicate project objectives to all stakeholders.
- Resolve technical, commercial, and operational issues affecting project progress.
- Ensure effective communication between project teams throughout the project lifecycle.
3. Engineering & Technical Management
- Review engineering designs, shop drawings, technical specifications, and project documentation.
- Provide technical guidance to site engineers and project teams.
- Evaluate engineering changes and recommend practical solutions.
- Ensure technical compliance with project requirements and applicable standards.
4. Budget & Cost Control
- Monitor project budgets, costs, and resource utilization.
- Review project expenditures and identify cost-saving opportunities.
- Support variation management and commercial evaluations.
- Assist in forecasting project costs and financial performance.
5. Schedule & Progress Monitoring
- Track project progress against approved schedules.
- Monitor manpower, materials, equipment, and subcontractor performance.
- Identify delays and implement recovery plans where required.
- Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports for management and clients.
6. Quality Assurance & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and engineering best practices.
- Coordinate inspections, testing, and quality control activities.
- Monitor corrective actions and ensure timely closure of quality issues.
- Support project audits and compliance reviews.
7. Health, Safety & Environment (HSE)
- Ensure compliance with all company HSE policies and local regulations.
- Promote a strong safety culture across project teams.
- Monitor site safety performance and address non-conformities.
- Ensure all project activities are carried out safely and responsibly.
8. Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain project documentation, technical records, and correspondence.
- Prepare project reports, progress updates, and management presentations.
- Monitor RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and approval status.
- Ensure proper documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
9. Project Close-Out & Handover
- Coordinate testing, commissioning, snagging, and rectification activities.
- Ensure completion of punch list items before project handover.
- Prepare final documentation, as-built records, and handover packages.
- Support project close-out and lessons learned reviews.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil, Mechanical, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of proven experience as a Project Engineer or in a similar engineering/project management role.
- Experience managing commercial, residential, hospitality, industrial, or fit-out construction projects.
