Description
The Estimation Engineer is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates, quantity take-offs, BOQs, and tender submissions for MEP fit-out and civil projects. The role involves evaluating project requirements, obtaining supplier and subcontractor quotations, identifying value engineering opportunities, and ensuring commercially viable bids while meeting client specifications and project deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
1. Tender Review & Estimation
- Review tender documents, drawings, specifications, BOQs, and client requirements.
- Analyze project scope to identify cost implications, risks, and estimation requirements.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates for MEP and civil works.
- Ensure estimates are accurate, competitive, and submitted within tender deadlines.
2. Quantity Take-Off & BOQ Preparation
- Prepare detailed quantity take-offs from architectural, structural, and MEP drawings.
- Develop Bills of Quantities (BOQs) in accordance with project specifications.
- Verify quantities and identify discrepancies in tender documents.
- Coordinate with design teams to clarify technical requirements.
3. Cost Estimation & Pricing
- Estimate material, labour, equipment, subcontractor, and overhead costs.
- Prepare comprehensive cost breakdowns for Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC, Fire Fighting, ELV, and Civil works.
- Maintain updated cost databases and pricing records.
- Monitor market trends, supplier pricing, and material costs.
4. Supplier & Subcontractor Coordination
- Obtain quotations from suppliers and subcontractors.
- Evaluate quotations for technical compliance, pricing, and commercial suitability.
- Negotiate competitive pricing and delivery schedules.
- Maintain relationships with approved suppliers and subcontractors.
5. Value Engineering & Cost Optimization
- Identify opportunities for value engineering without compromising quality or project requirements.
- Recommend cost-effective materials, systems, and construction methods.
- Support management in achieving competitive tender pricing.
6. Tender Submission & Documentation
- Prepare complete technical and commercial tender submissions.
- Compile all supporting documentation required for tender submission.
- Ensure compliance with client requirements and local authority regulations.
- Maintain tender registers, estimation records, and bid documentation.
7. Technical Coordination
- Coordinate with architects, consultants, project engineers, procurement, and design teams.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits where required.
- Respond to tender clarifications and technical queries.
- Assist during project handover to the execution team.
8. Reporting & Continuous Improvement
- Prepare bid comparison reports, cost analyses, and management summaries.
- Maintain historical project cost data for future reference.
- Support continuous improvement of estimation processes, templates, and cost databases.
- Contribute to lessons learned and post-tender evaluations.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5–10 years of estimation experience in MEP fit-out and civil projects.
- UAE experience in commercial, residential, hospitality, and fit-out projects is mandatory.
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, Plumbing, Drainage, Fire Fighting, Electrical, ELV, and Civil works.
- Experience in preparing quantity take-offs, BOQs, cost estimates, and tender submissions.
- Familiarity with UAE market rates, materials, suppliers, and local authority requirements.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Microsoft Excel, and estimation software.
