Mechanical Product Design & Development Engineer
location - Sharjah
A specialized industrial manufacturing company is looking to hire a Mechanical Product Design & Development Engineer to work on the design and development of industrial products that combine rubber and metal components and are used in sealing, isolation, expansion, gripping, and pressure-related applications.
We are looking for a professional engineer who can take a product development project from the initial concept stage through design, engineering calculations, prototyping, testing, improvement, and final production. The candidate must be capable of ensuring that the product meets the required performance, safety, and technical specifications.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop industrial mechanical products that include rubber and metal components operating under pressure or mechanical load.
- Study product requirements, including size, operating pressure, application conditions, surface type, sealing method, gripping method, and safety requirements.
- Perform engineering calculations related to pressure, generated forces, safety factors, gripping force, stress, deformation, and sliding resistance.
- Design metal and rubber components to ensure proper performance, safety, durability, and manufacturability.
- Select suitable materials for metal and rubber components based on operating conditions and application requirements.
- Prepare 3D models and detailed 2D manufacturing drawings.
- Perform or review FEA analysis to verify product strength, deformation, stress concentration, and potential failure points.
- Analyze rubber behavior under compression, expansion, friction, and contact with different surfaces.
- Design or review rubber moulds, including rubber injection, compression, or transfer moulding applications.
- Study and improve mould design related to injection points, venting, shrinkage, flash control, deformation, and demoulding.
- Follow up on prototype manufacturing and coordinate with production, workshop, quality, and suppliers.
- Supervise product testing, review test results, and analyze failure causes when required.
- Improve existing designs and develop new products based on market and customer requirements.
- Prepare complete engineering documentation, including drawings, calculations, BOM, manufacturing instructions, and testing requirements.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Minimum 5 to 8 years of practical experience in industrial mechanical product design.
- Strong experience in designing rubber-metal assemblies.
- Experience with products operating under water pressure, air pressure, sealing, isolation, gripping, or leakage prevention applications.
- Strong ability to perform engineering calculations, not only 3D modelling or visual design.
- Experience in rubber mould design, or strong practical understanding of rubber mould manufacturing and related production issues.
- Proficiency in mechanical design software such as SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, or similar.
- Experience with engineering analysis software such as ANSYS, Abaqus, SolidWorks Simulation, or similar.
- Ability to prepare professional manufacturing drawings with good understanding of tolerances and GD&T.
- Good understanding of rubber properties such as hardness, compression, elongation, tensile strength, tear resistance, and compression set.
- Experience in selecting suitable materials for different industrial applications.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in industrial sealing and isolation products.
- Experience with rubber and metal products used in industrial or pressure-related applications.
- Knowledge of rubber injection moulding, compression moulding, or transfer moulding.
- Experience with mould flow or mould analysis software such as SIGMASOFT, Moldex3D, or similar.
- Experience in designing products for high-pressure or harsh industrial environments.
