Description

What's the role?:

The Team

As part of the Rendering Services team at HERE Technologies, you will build the automation and tooling that supports the development, testing, and delivery of our global map rendering services. The team operates high-performance, scalable rendering systems across automotive, web, and mobile platforms — serving data to millions of users worldwide. Your work will help engineers move faster, improve quality, and keep our delivery workflows reliable at scale.

What you'll be doing

You will design, implement, and maintain the automation, internal tooling, and GitLab pipelines that our engineering teams rely on every day. This is a software engineering role focused on building reliable developer workflows and solving hard technical problems with code. A typical week might include designing a pipeline architecture for multi-region deployments, writing a Python service that orchestrates test environments, or debugging a build failure that traces back to a problem in the service.

You should be motivated to explore solutions, deliver high-quality software, work outside your comfort zone when needed, and enjoy learning new technologies. You'll contribute to architectural decisions alongside senior engineers and grow your skills and ownership over time.

  • Develop and maintain developer-facing tooling and integrations that improve productivity and release velocity
  • Design and implement GitLab pipelines, automation frameworks, and engineering workflows
  • Write automation code in Python, Go, or Bash to support build, test, and release processes
  • Collaborate with software engineers, QA, DevOps, and architects to design scalable build, test, and delivery workflows and bring these systems to life
  • Improve and optimise pipeline performance, reliability, and cost efficiency
  • Debug and fix problems in our automation and delivery workflows
  • Contribute to service-level code changes when automation work intersects with core rendering systems
  • Use and evaluate AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot to speed up development workflows and reduce operational overhead

How we work

  • Engineers own problems end-to-end — from pipeline design to production code when needed
  • We value curiosity and people who enjoy exploring beyond their current scope
  • Code review, design proposals, and cross-team collaboration are how we make decisions
  • We invest in growth — team members are encouraged and supported to contribute to our core C++/Rust services and tools over time

Who are you?:

Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering — or Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of relevant professional experience
  • Strong software development skills with a developer-first mindset: you enjoy designing systems, writing maintainable code, and working across the full software development lifecycle
  • Solid experience developing and maintaining GitLab CI pipelines; experience with GitHub Actions is also considered
  • Strong interest in developer automation, tooling, and engineering productivity
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, GCP
  • Proficiency in software development and automation using Python, Go, or Bash
  • Familiarity with modern build and release workflows in cloud-native environments
  • Experienced in troubleshooting failures across build, test, and delivery workflows
  • Hands-on experience with AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot to improve engineering productivity
  • Fluency in written and spoken English
  • Genuine curiosity and motivation to learn new technologies and adapt as the tooling landscape evolves

Would be a plus

  • Working knowledge of a systems programming language such as C++ or Rust (our services are built on these) or strong willingness to learn these
