Job Summary
The Production & Planning Engineer is responsible for planning, scheduling, monitoring, and controlling all fabrication and production activities to ensure projects are completed safely, efficiently, and within the approved timelines. The role involves coordinating between Engineering, Procurement, Production, QA/QC, Logistics, and Site Teams to achieve optimum productivity and on-time project delivery.
Key Responsibilities: Production Planning & Scheduling
- Develop detailed production schedules based on project requirements and delivery commitments.
- Prepare weekly and monthly fabrication plans for workshop activities.
- Allocate manpower, machinery, and fabrication resources effectively.
- Monitor fabrication progress against approved schedules.
- Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly production reports.
- Track project milestones and identify potential delays.
- Ensure fabrication activities align with project priorities.
Production Management
- Coordinate fabrication activities including:
- Structural Steel Fabrication
- Plate Fabrication
- PEB Components
- Staircases
- Handrails
- Ladders
- Canopies
- Miscellaneous Steel Works
- Monitor workshop productivity and efficiency.
- Ensure optimum utilization of labor, equipment, and materials.
- Implement production improvement initiatives to increase output.
- Support workshop supervisors and foremen in achieving production targets.
Material Planning & Coordination
- Coordinate with Procurement for material availability.
- Monitor material consumption and stock levels.
- Review Material Take-Offs (MTOs) and fabrication drawings.
- Identify material shortages and initiate procurement requirements.
- Ensure materials are available before production starts.
Project Monitoring
- Prepare and maintain project master schedules using Primavera P6 or MS Project.
- Track fabrication progress against baseline schedules.
- Conduct schedule variance analysis.
- Monitor productivity and resource utilization.
- Prepare recovery plans for delayed activities.
- Update management on project progress and critical issues.
Coordination & Communication
- Liaise with:
- Engineering Department
- Procurement Team
- QA/QC Department
- Logistics Team
- Site Engineers
- Project Managers
- Coordinate drawing releases for production.
- Ensure fabrication priorities match site installation requirements.
- Attend project review and coordination meetings.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure production activities comply with approved drawings and specifications.
- Coordinate with QA/QC for inspections and testing requirements.
- Ensure compliance with company quality standards.
- Support NCR closure and corrective actions.
- Maintain production documentation and records.
Reporting & Documentation
- Prepare:
- Daily Production Reports
- Weekly Progress Reports
- Monthly Progress Reports
- Resource Histograms
- Productivity Reports
- Look-Ahead Schedules
- Fabrication Tracking Reports
- Material Status Reports
- Maintain project dashboards and KPI reports.
Health, Safety & Environment
- Ensure compliance with company HSE policies.
- Promote safe working practices within production areas.
- Participate in safety inspections and audits.
- Report unsafe conditions and recommend corrective actions.
RequirementsEducation
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Production Engineering, Civil Engineering, or related field.
Experience
- Minimum 4–8 years of experience in Steel Fabrication, Structural Steel, PEB, or Construction Industry.
- GCC/UAE/KSA experience preferred.
- Experience in fabrication workshop planning and production control is mandatory.
