Business & Finance Controller
Unicorn Hospitality Group
Description
THE MISSION
At Unicorn, we believe hospitality is more than a service — it is a promise. We are the operational backbone behind some of Europe's most forward-thinking hotel brands: the partner guests never see, but always feel. From spotless rooms to seamless remote check-ins, we deliver Hotel Operations-as-a-Service — housekeeping, maintenance, and guest operations — white-labelled under our partners' brands.
Become Business & Finance Controller: Own the numbers across five markets, protect our cash and turn both into better decisions with the Country GMs – clear, human, sustainable.
We are founder-owned, profitable, and fund our growth from our own cash flow. As the sole finance person in the company, you own the integrity of the numbers across all five operating entities — Norway, the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, and Sweden. You keep the cash forecast tight, turn both into better decisions, and act as a commercial partner to the Country GMs. You forecast and protect the cash; the CEO decides how it is deployed. You work closely with the General Manager Germany / DACH (dotted reporting line).
WHAT YOU WILL OWN
- Monthly Close & Consolidation: Accurate, timely close across NO, NL, DE, UK and SE. Group- and country-level P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow consolidated cleanly on a predictable rhythm. All reporting net of VAT by default.
- Management Reporting & Business Partnering: Property- and country-level P&L, margins, labour ratios, and KPIs — and the analysis that turns them into action with the Country GMs. This is where the role creates value, not just records it.
- Cash Flow Forecasting: Rolling 13-week and 12-month cash forecast, intercompany cash coordination, and early flagging of liquidity risk across the group. Operational cash discipline sits here.
- AR & Working Capital: AR ageing, DSO, escalation routines, and zero-tolerance follow-through on overdue accounts — the operational engine behind the cash forecast.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Annual budget and rolling forecasts built with the Country GMs, owned end to end, and kept current throughout the year.
- Commercial Insight: You give the CEO and the GMs the numbers that drive decisions — gross margin, cost-per-room, unit economics — and say clearly where money is made and where margin killers lurk.
- Controls & Policies: Approval matrices, accounting policies (local GAAP / IFRS where relevant), intercompany discipline, and a clean, audit-ready trail across all entities.
- Audit & Tax Coordination: Internal counterpart to our external accountants and auditors in each market — coordinating, reviewing, and keeping statutory filings on track. Includes the newly outsourced Norwegian accounting.
- Light Systems & Reporting: Work within and improve the existing finance stack — the lightest reporting that gives the business what it needs, never process for its own sake.
WHO YOU ARE
You bring around 4 to 7 years of finance experience with genuine multi-entity and consolidation experience, plus hands-on cash flow forecasting and working capital management. Hospitality, facility management, or another service-intensive business is a plus.
- Qualified or finalist-level: Qualified or finalist-level accountant (CPA, CA, ACCA, or strong practical equivalent — full StB not required).
- Quick and sharp: You think in numbers like others think in words. You spot anomalies immediately, chase them down, and draw conclusions others miss.
- Commercially hungry: You love making money and improving things. You treat the P&L like your own and take pride in every margin you find or protect.
- Hands-on, not heavy: You build the lightest system that works. You are not a consultant — you are a maker. You write the formula yourself instead of passing requirements on.
- Solid craft + commercial head: Strong technical accounting (local GAAP / IFRS where relevant)
