Financial Operations Intern - German speaking (on-site)
Cloover
Description
Your role
Most fintech startups talk about operational excellence — few actually build it from the ground up. At Cloover, we're processing financing for thousands of solar, heat pump, and EV installations across Germany and Austria, and we need someone who wants to get into the engine room and help it run better. As a Financial Operations Intern, you'll support the full customer financing lifecycle — from payment reconciliation to compliance checks to process automation — while working directly alongside the Finance, Operations, and Risk teams.
This is a 6-month internship with real responsibility, not a shadow programme. Over this time, you'll get an inside view of how a fast-scaling climate fintech runs operational finance across markets — connecting compliance, payments, documentation, and customer operations end-to-end, and building the AI and automation skills that most finance roles won't give you for years.
You'll report to the Head of Portfolio Management and work within a cross-functional team spanning Finance, Operations, Risk, and Compliance.
Your mission
- Own end-to-end support across the customer financing lifecycle — from onboarding documentation through to ongoing servicing — ensuring accuracy and completeness at every stage.
- Prepare, validate, and reconcile payment data, invoices, and partner settlements, catching discrepancies before they become problems.
- Handle operational case management: investigate issues, document outcomes, and close the loop with internal stakeholders without letting things fall through the cracks.
- Use AI tools and coding assistants to identify and automate repetitive manual tasks, building lightweight scripts that free the team to focus on higher-order work.
- Contribute to compliance processes — including KYC/AML support — maintaining records that are audit-ready from day one.
- Spot recurring process gaps, propose fixes, and help implement standard operating procedures that actually stick.
Your profile
We care more about how you think and what you've built than where you've been. Here's what will set you up for success in this role:
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Operations, or a related field — and ready to apply it in a fast-moving environment.
- Works through complex operational data methodically: catches the error in row 847, documents why it happened, and closes the loop.
- Comfortable in Excel or Google Sheets and at least curious about SQL — you don't need to be a data engineer, but you're not afraid of a pivot table or a basic query.
- Uses AI tools (Claude, Claude Code, or similar) as a natural part of daily work — not as a novelty, but as a productivity layer that you've already integrated into how you operate.
- Fluent in both German and English, written and verbal, and communicates clearly — stakeholders across Finance, Ops, and Risk should always know where something stands.
- Takes ownership without being chased: if something's broken, you flag it; if something's slow, you find a way to speed it up.
- Based in Berlin and energized by being in the room. We're intentionally office-first — decisions get made in real time, prototypes get stress-tested over lunch, and the founding team is ten meters away. If that's how you thrive, you'll feel at home here.
Nice to have (but not required):
- Experience with BI or data visualisation tools (Metabase, Looker, or similar)
- German language proficiency (B2 or above)
Don't meet every requirement? Apply anyway. We hire for potential and perspective — credentials are a starting point, not a ceiling.
